High Speed Scanning Module (HSSM)
The High Speed Scanning Module (HSSM) was designed to provide the
easiest and fastest way to batch scan large numbers of documents and
'automatically' index and store them in the RecFind-Corporate relational
database.
The HSSM has three modules:
- Professional Service
- GMB has twenty years experience in providing solutions like
the HSSM. GMB can provide the on-site expertise to help you install and integrate
the HSSM into your environment.
GMB has an experienced 1800 support organization in place. GMB have all
the people, tools and processes to support HSSM users.
-
- Quality Assured
- GMB has been ISO9001 certified for over ten years and its software design, manufacturing, testing, distribution and
support processes are audited twice per year by a government accredited
standard organization.
-
- Support
- GMB's Support maintenance services include:
Automatic Software Upgrades and 1-800 Support Incidents. As an
additional service, on-site technical support is available for on-site
required tasks such as data migrations, software upgrade installation,
application and database assistance, application installation and
technical training.

- DocScan
- DocScan is the module that controls the scanner
during the scanning process and contains the code that recognizes the
identifying barcode (in code 3 of 9 only) on the first page of the
document. There is no need to tell DocScan the coordinates of the
barcode; it will find it anywhere on the page. DocScan will then assure
that all pages (without a barcode) following a page with a barcode are
subsequent pages of a single document. It will store all such pages as a
multi-page TIFF files using the barcode as the identifier.
- ISYS:Image
- ISYS:Image is third party software developed by
Odyssey Development. By incorporating ISYS:Image software, scanned
documents can also be converted into a text file using OCR. The
ISYS:Image software is configured to convert scanned documents in a
user-defined folder. Scanned text files are indexed by ISYS:Desktop and
are therefore fully searchable through the ISYS Search engine by RecFind-Corporate users with the correct level of security.
-
- The ISYS:Image software can be configured to
include custom dictionaries and will allow an end user to set a range of
different options. The ISYS:Image software can also be configured to
take into account documents with inferior print quality, such as faxes
and newspapers.
-
- RecScan
- RecScan is the module that processes the
multi-page TIFF files created by DocScan and text files created by
ISYS:Image and attaches them to the RecFind-Corporate database. If the
barcode is the same as the document registration number of an existing
document profile in RecFind-Corporate it will automatically attach the
images and text to that document profile (the images are then
automatically indexed by the Metadata in that same document profile).
Alternatively, it can create new document profiles where there is no
match with the barcode number.
-
- RecScan can also be used to scan existing
directories of files (previously captured by some other system) and
automatically capture, index and store various file types including
TIFF, JPEG, PDF etc.
-
- Security
- As RecScan generates attachments, and where
necessary document profiles, a security level can be defined by the
user. This security level will be the same for all the files to be
attached. Therefore different levels of security will be required and
files will need to be attached in batches. From the Security list, you
may also select the Inherit Doc Profile option, which means that all
attachments generated will have the same security code of the document
profile that it is attached to.
-
- Default Document
Sequence
- Defines a default document sequence number when
creating a new document profile, according to the rules set in RecFind-Corporate's document number configuration.

The High Speed Scanning Module runs on a machine, which has a
high-speed scanner attached. At the very least this machine must meet the
requirements of RecFind plus the requirements of the scanner as set by the
scanner manufacturer. The High Speed Scanning Module was originally
designed to function with a Canon DR3020 scanner, however it is based on
the industry standard TWAIN interface supported by most scanners. Prior to
using the High Speed Scanning Module the scanner's TWAIN driver must be
installed.
To use the HSSM, you will require the following:
- IBM compatible, personal computer with a
Pentium or higher processor (or equivalent (i.e. Celeron, AMD, etc)
- A hard disk or file server with at least 200MB
of free space plus an additional 150MB for the installation process
- A mouse
- A VGA compatible or better display (800 x 600
resolution)
- A sound card and speakers (optional, required
for sound functionality)
- 64MB of RAM minimum (128 recommended) Note:
Depending on operating system, additional RAM may be required. For
example, if using Windows 2000 128MB RAM is required as a minimum
- Microsoft Windows 98/2000/XP
