Date of discontinuance of support for RecFind 3.2 and all previous releases

June 30, 2003

Released: March 13, 2003

After June 30, 2003 GMB will no longer accept support calls for RecFind 3.2 or any previous version of the RecFind product group, (e.g., 1.0, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0).

Explanation

RecFind 3.2 was the last hybrid (mixed 16bit/32bit) version of the RecFind product range. It was also the last version to support the Btrieve and DISAM databases; neither of which is now supported.

RecFind 3.2 was first delivered in October 1999.

RecFind 3.2 has been superseded by RecFind 4.0, a full, multi-million dollar, 32bit rewrite of the RecFind product range. RecFind 4.0 now only supports Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle as its relational databases; it no longer supports Btrieve or DISAM. RecFind 4.0 was first delivered in June 2001.

All existing 3.2 customers have been advised multiple times of the need to upgrade from 3.2 to 4.0. Whereas most have now upgraded there are still a small number of customers who are still running RecFind 3.2 and that have not yet installed RecFind 4.0. Many of these same customers have been delivered RecFind 4.0 under their ASU agreement. Some of these customers no longer have an ASU agreement and have yet to purchase RecFind 4.0. Those without an ASU have been given specific incentives to upgrade to RecFind 4.0.

RecFind 4.0 is now about to be superceded by RecFind 5.0; we will start shipping RecFind 5.0 in March/April 2003. RecFind 5.0 is the most significant upgrade of RecFind in its history.

What products does this discontinuance involve?

  • RecFind-Corporate 3.2
  • RecFind-Professional 3.2
  • RecQuery 3.2
  • RecQuery-TC 3.2
  • AIM Engine 3.2
  • RecFind-Button 3.2
  • OLE Engine 3.2
  • HSSM 3.2
  • DocFind 2.0

What should customers still on 3.2 (or an earlier version) now do?

If you were shipped RecFind 4.0 under an Automatic Software Upgrade (ASU) agreement, you should install RecFind 4.0 as soon as possible. Note that there have been five releases of RecFind 4.0 as follows:

  • 4.0.0A6th June 2001
  • 4.0.0B21st July 2001
  • 4.0.0C10th September 2001
  • 4.0.0D22nd October 2001
  • 4.0.0D6 22nd May 2002

Each release contained fixes and enhancements. RecFind 4.0.0D6 is the latest release and the recommended release for your upgrade from RecFind 3.2.

If you have an earlier lease of RecFind 4.0 than RecFind 4.0.0D6 or if you have lost or misplaced your copy of RecFind 4.0.0D6 then please contact GMB’s production department who will build and ship you a replacement for a production, handling and shipping fee of $150.
