GEM RDBM V1.1.0
Service Pack 1

Service Packs add improvements and provide fixes to problems discovered by GMB and our customers. Note that the symptoms (problems) described below may not be experienced by your site. Many of these symptoms are due to a unique set of circumstances that your site may not experience. Not all of the 'fixes' are because of faults in the code; many are 'work-arounds' for problems found in network, operating system or database products used by GEM but not supplied by GMB.

GEM RDBM Service Pack 1 for Release 1.1.0 contains all corrections and improvements made to GEM RDBM v1.1.0 since its release. Corrections include fixes to address the following symptoms:

  • The workstation setup application (\gem\setup.exe) does not produce shortcuts to GEM tools. [Ref: F003]

Installation

Requirements

  • This service pack must be applied to the server where GEM-RDBM has been installed.
  • Prior to installing the service pack, ensure that no users are running GEM-RDBM. Also ensure that the GEM-Indexer is not running.

Installing the Service Pack 1

The Service Pack you wish to download consist of a self-expanding executable file. Please follow the following steps:

  • On your local hard drive, create a temporary directory (for example, c:\rectemp) to hold the file(s) you are about to download.
  • Returning to the Service Pack Web Page, locate the service pack you want to download and click "Download Now".
  • Your web browser will ask you how to handle the file it downloads. Select 'Save to disk'.
  • In the Save As dialog box, specify the temporary directory you created earlier (c:\rectemp).
  • Enter the file name. This name may already show as the default name for the file to be saved.
  • Select OK.

You may now close your web browser as the remaining instructions are performed on your local system. (Please make sure you have printed this document to complete the rest of the steps.)

  • The RecFind for Windows Service Pack is contained in a self-expanding executable. To expand the software, open Windows Explorer (Windows 95) or Windows File Manager (Windows 3.1/3.11 or NT 3.51). Locate the temporary directory you created in step A (c:\rectemp). Double click on the file you downloaded.

Now that the service pack is extracted, you may install the service pack.

  • From the Windows Explorer (Windows 95) or Windows File Manager (Windows 3.1/3.11 or NT 3.51) double click the Setup.exe file which is located in the temporary directory you created in step A (c:\ rectemp).
  • Follow the screen prompts to complete installation.
  • Read any release notes before starting RecFind.
  • You may now restart the GEM-Indexer.
