KnowledgeoneK1
Our new product Knowledgeone K1 is both a wholly new genre
of product and a new paradigm for application software.
Knowledgeone K1 was designed as a true Knowledge Management (KM) solution as opposed
to the 're-badging' efforts of other vendors. It was developed in parallel
with GMB's client server solution RecFind; it is not a redevelopment of
RecFind. It was also designed as a complete replacement for the whole
RecFind suite.
GMB's complete but simple definition of a KM system is:
"A Knowledge Management System is one that provides the user
with the explicit information required, in exactly the form required, at
precisely the time the user needs it."
K1 was designed to satisfy this definition and to also meet its other
main objective of; "Providing instant access to all sources of
knowledge". Out of the box, K1 provides access to its own tables,
to the tables of other 'foreign' applications, to the Internet, to your
email store and to your imaging and electronic document stores. It also
includes an innovative Tacit Knowledge Engine (TKE) that provides instant
access to the tacit knowledge within any organization's most important
resource, its human capital.
K1 was also designed to be a multi-application solution, a chameleon;
able to become whatever the user wants it to be. However, unlike offerings
from other vendors, it is not a toolset; it can be used as a complete
solution straight from the box. Many organizations run 20 or more
disparate and badly integrated software applications to serve their
business needs. How advantageous would it be to replace a large number of
those disparate systems with a single application solution? No troublesome
integrations required. How much money would it save your organization?
K1 was designed to be data ambivalent; the K1 'standard' user interface
is totally data independent and is able to process any table or collection
of tables without the need for expensive, time consuming and disruptive
programming changes. The real advantage of K1's automatically adapting or
"Data Ambivalent" user interface is that the end user can extend
the data model (add tables, add data elements, modify data elements)
without having to make any changes to the K1 standard user interface.
The K1 standard user interface is comprised of 17 standard methods.
These 17 standard methods allow the user to process 98% of all required
business transactions. For that extra 2%, K1 also has an extensible 18th
method called the Process method. Think of the Process Method as wizard
driven rapid application development system that allows the user to
quickly and easily add business logic.
K1 was designed to be a productivity aid rather than a productivity
drain. For example, K1 does all the work our current RecFind suite does
with less than 10% of the screens. This also means that you only require
10% of the training. It also means that it is at least ten times quicker
to learn.
K1 was designed to be a thin-client solution, utilizing the very latest
Microsoft .NET architecture. This means that there is nothing to install
or maintain on the user's workstation. How many thousands of man hours a
year will this save your IT support team?
With K1 the customer no longer has to wait on the vendor to quote for
and implement expensive changes to better fit the application to the
customer's specific business needs. K1 has been designed so the customer
can easily, quickly and inexpensively make any changes required. AND, the
magic of K1's standard user interface means that GMB can continue to
deliver updates that can be installed even though you may have extended
both K1's methods and data model to better fit your business needs.
The customer is no longer locked out of the product improvement cycle
because it has 'customized' the application. The customer is no longer
subjected to massive development fees and unreasonable delays.
K1 is also totally user-sensitive. This means that each end user can
customize his or her K1 interface to a highly personalized look and feel.
Each user can decide on fonts, colors, backgrounds, which objects to see
and which methods to access (within the bounds of the K1 sub-universes
assigned to them by the K1 Administrator). K1 is even multi-lingual, you
are able to simultaneously support as many languages as you require.
'Out of the box' K1 is a:
- Records management system;
- Library management system;
- Electronic document management system;
- Imaging system;
- Document portal;
- Content management system;
- Asset management system;
- Human Resources management system;
- Workflow system;
- Incident Support System;
- Customer Relationship Management System; and
much, much more.
K1 looks unlike any other application system you have seen. K1 requires
you to rethink how you use application systems. K1 changes the whole
application software paradigm. You, the customer, are now completely in
charge; you no longer need to rely on and wait on (and wait on and wait
on) the software vendor. You decide what modifications and changes will
cost and you decide when they will be done.
K1 is also an instant prototyping tool. Simply design and add the new
tables to K1 and your new application instantly works using the K1
standard user interface; it really is that simple and that fast. Once the
prototype is working to your satisfaction (i.e. you have refined your new
data model) use the Process Method to easily and quickly extend K1's
standard business logic.
K1 is all about adapting to change. Unlike other sophisticated business
application software however, it puts the power of change in your hands,
not the vendor's. How quickly do you need to adapt to our rapidly changing
business world? How much do you want to pay for those changes? How long do
you want to wait for those changes? With K1, the decisions are 100% yours,
not the vendor's.
Why settle for the SAP model (Software Application Paralysis) when you
can profit from the K1 P3AS model (Perspicuous, Palatable, Parsimonious
Application Software)?
